What's New?
This month has been a quiet month at Shaping Your Destiny on the
web development front. However, we are in the process now of making
some major additions to the site to improve its usability and to
give you more from it.
You can now find a classifieds ad section, where you can place
your free advertisements at: http://www.shapingyourdestiny.com/ads.htm
There is also a new version of the 20 Little Ways book, available
for your download in the e-book section, though it is now almost
3Mb in size: http://www.shapingyourdestiny.com/ebooks.htm
Change Is Like a Pair of Shoes
Change is something we all go through all the time, though we
may not realise it. We cannot actually see change happening, we
just see the results of change. Sometimes change is easy, other
times it is a long and torturous process.
How difficult change is depends a lot on your attitude towards
it and your resistance to it. You attitude to change can itself
change, and make the whole transformation process much easier to
bear. It all depends on your perspective.
Imagine change as a pair of shoes, this will help you understand
change and how it works. Let me explain.
I am sure that you have at sometime in your life had a comfortable
pair of shoes. You know the sort I mean. A pair of shoes so comfortable
that you really don't want to ever get rid of them and you wish
you had bought a dozen pairs at the same time. The fit your feet
so perfectly you can almost forget you are even wearing shoes.
You know you need a new pair, and may even have them, but you
don't want to wear them because you are comfortable with your current
pair. Besides, the new pair may hurt your feet, give you blisters
or be awkward to wear to start with. So, you resist the new shoes.
However, a part of you knows that this new pair would be much better
for your feet, and after the initial discomfort would probably be
even more comfortable, yet still you resist.
Do you know I'm doing this now? I'm wearing my comfortable shoes
and they feel good. They have a hole in each heel, and the sole
is starting to fall off, but I'm persisting in wearing them. I even
have a new pair of shoes under my desk as I write this. But my feet
are used to the old comfy pair. The new pair is tighter, and hotter
in this summer weather. I know I shouldn't wear my old shoes because
they cause a callus where the inside of the shoe has worn thin,
but still I persist.
This describes change exactly; change of our habits, change of
our thought patterns. We stick with the old patterns because they
are comfortable. Yet we know we need to change and that the change
will ultimately be good for us. Once we get over the initial pain
of the transformation, the new pattern will be comfortable and feel
good ... until the time comes when we need another new pair of shoes.
How Many Worries?
Did you know that 92% of our worries are wasting our time and
energy? Needlessly, they cause us pain and suffering, when we could
easily be much happier?
This 92% is broken down roughly as follows:
- 40% are about thing that will never happen
- 30% are over things in the past that can't be changed
- 12% are needless health worries
- 10% are petty miscellaneous worries
That leaves 8% that are legitimate worries. These are broken down
into two types - those we can solve, and those that are beyond our
personal ability to solve.
Have you ever thought about how much of your time and energy is
spent on needless worries?
Take a sheet of paper and write down all your worries and concerns.
Look at each one and decide if it is legitimate or one of the 92%
of needless worries. Cross off all the needless worries, and instantly
you feel better!!
Once you have sorted them out, you can start to come up with strategies
to solve the 8% that are left.
Breath of Energy
Air is our life force; it is what keeps us alive. It is of vital
importance to us, yet many people do not know how to breathe properly.
If we look at a new-born baby, that child will be breathing from
their stomach in deep and regular breaths. If we look at an adult,
the chances are, the adult will be breathing shallowly and/or from
the chest. This results in in-efficient processing of the air we
breathe, meaning we do not get the most from life.
So what is proper breathing then? For a start, try to breathe
deeply from your stomach as much as possible. This will not only
energise you, but also helps to keep you calm and healthy. When
we are agitated or angry, our breathing becomes shallow and from
the chest. Moving to deep, stomach breathing will help break you
out from a negative state into a more positive state.
There is a breathing exercise you can do that will activate your
lymph nodes and help to cleanse your body and energise you. For
this, you have to breathe in, hold, and breathe out to the count
of 1-4-2. For example, breathe in for the count of 3 (the 1 part
of the formula). Then hold for the count of 12 (4 times 3), then
breathe out for 6 (2 times 3).
You can change the numbers and count as fast or as slow as you
desire. The important thing is that you hold for 4 times your original
count, and breathe out for 2 times your original count.
Do this exercise three times a day and you will soon notice that
not only has your energy levels increased, but also your health.
Wealth Building
Each month, we bring you a tip or trick for building your wealth.
This month, the second of the 9 Keys of Wealth, by Jason Johns.
The second key is to use your money to buy assets. Many people
think of their home as an asset; but it is not. It is a liability.
An asset is something that brings you money, whereas a liability
is something that takes money away from you. A house is a liability
because whereas it may increase in value giving you extra money,
it costs you money in bills, mortgage, property taxes, upkeep, and
so on. The house you live in is not liquid money, meaning that whilst
it may go up in value, that value remains locked in to the bricks
and mortar and cannot be spent, only used to borrow more money to
get into more debt. A house that you rent out is an asset because
someone else is paying all the bills, and paying you rent, that
covers the mortgage and gives you some profit.
Health Tip
There is a fine balance in the body between acid and alkaline.
If this balance swings too far either way, then illness occurs.
Many of our illnesses are caused by excess acidity in the body.
To counter this, and to improve your help, ensure that you do
not focus too heavily on acidic foods (e.g. citrus), but that you
also eat plenty of alkaline foods.
One of the best ways I have found to do this is to have fresh
melon for breakfast each morning. I don't have this every day, but
anytime I start to feel under the weather I start eating melon every
morning and cutting back on acidic food. Very soon, I feel much
better.
Try it yourself and see the difference it will make in your life.

Mentoring and Modelling
If you are wondering how to achieve some of your goals, there
are two excellent ways to get some help. You can get a mentor or
model someone who has already achieved your goal. Let's explain
these in a bit more detail here.
A mentor is someone with experience of achieving what you want
that will teach and guide you on how to reach it. If your goal is
to lose weight then your mentor might be someone who has successfully
lost weight and kept it off.
A model is also someone who has achieved the goal that you want.
However, with modelling, you look at the actions this person took
or the qualities that they have and copy them into your life. You
have to examine the person's strategy for success, and find out
exactly what they did to achieve the goal and then you can copy
it yourself.
Imagine you are baking a cake. You don't randomly throw ingredients
into a dish and hope for the best. You follow a tried and proven
recipe to make the particular cake you desire.
And so it is with success. The 'recipe' that one person uses for
success, be it making a million pounds, loosing weight, or improving
their health, is a recipe that you can discover and apply to your
own life.
One way to do this would be to interview your potential models
to find out their recipes, or read their autobiographies if they
have one published. Another way would be to use the Internet to
research their lives, and read any books they may have published.
All of these will give you an insight into their lives and their
strategies for success.
Modelling is a very effective way of achieving, though it does
make some people feel a bit strange to 'copy' another person. Remember
when you were a child learning to talk and interact with the world
around you. How did you learn? You modelled your parents and the
people around you too.
This month, think about one of your goals you want to achieve,
and then decide if there is someone who has achieved it who could
mentor you or who you could model. Discover their strategies for
success and see how you can apply them to your life to help you
to achieve your goal.
Book of the Month
This month, the book of the month is an audio book - a program
on tape that will help change your life.
It is called "Lead the Field" by Earl Nightingale. You may have
heard of Earl, he ran a radio program in America, and partnered
with Lloyd Conant to form Nightingale-Conant Corporation. Earl created
and performed over 7,000 daily broadcasts for his radio program,
"Our Changing World". He has been inducted into the Radio Hall of
Fame, and the International Speakers Hall Of Fame, as well as authoring
two books and giving countless speeches. His LP "The Strangest Secret"
sold well over a million copies.
One of his friends described him: "Earl Nightingale never let
a day go by that he didn't learn something new and, in turn, pass
it on to others. It was his consuming passion."
Now is your chance to share Earl's passion, and let it infuse
and revolutionise your life. This program will give you tools and
techniques that you need to make an incredible difference in your
life.
You will be clearer on my goals, and understand even more about
how to achieve them. Earl will introduce you to the concept that
one of our purposes in life is to provide service to others. Instead
of thinking, "How can I earn money", instead think, "How can I provide
service to others" and the money will flow.
It is a 6-CD or tape set, and this is what you'll get from each
side.
