Reiki is an ancient eastern healing system. It involves the direction of energy and the use of symbols in healing. It is an intelligent energy which means it will go where it is needed most within a patient. Reiki is attained through a series of attunements where a Reiki Master 'opens' you up to the Reiki energy so you can use it. There are three or four stages to Reiki depending on which part of it you follow.

Reiki I

This is the first level of attunement. Usually it is done in a day or a weekend. Sometimes it is combined with Reiki II. It is recommended by many that you take 3-4 months after doing Reiki I before approaching Reiki II. Usually after this attunement you have a 21 day healing period where you use Reiki regularly on yourself.

This level gives you some basic Reiki ability which you can use on yourself and on others.

Reiki II

At this level you are introduced to the first of the symbols. Once you have your Reiki II you can practise on others and set yourself up as a practioner. The energy you can channel at this level is much greater than Reiki I and using the symbols you are given (which are passed only from master to student), you can send Reiki through time and space too.

Reiki III

Some Reiki tutors teach Reiki III and Reiki Masters separately. Many combine Reiki III and masters into a single course. At this level you are taught almost everything that the master is taught, apart from how to attune new students. Again at this level the energy you can channel increases.

Reiki Masters

At the Reiki Masters level you are introduced to the attunement process. You are taught how to attune others to Reiki. Some practitioners also teach such things as psychic surgery and other healing techniques at this level.

Reiki is a very versatile energy. You can use it on yourselves, your friends, your pets, plants, the earth, water, food, just about anything. It is perfectly harmless and because of it's intellegence may not be used for harm. It can be taught to anyone of any age. It is a pure form of energy that can work remotely, hence the healing book.
